To celebrate the day of the end – for the time being – of the eviction in the Hambi, RWE is erecting fences and the Meadow Camp is raided

Today is Wednesday, 10/03/2018, German Unity Day, reason enough for RWE once again to build a fence. In and around Hambach Forest.

The clearing of the more than 60 tree houses began on September 13th. Yesterday, on Tuesday, October 2nd, after 19 days for the time being, was its end.

Within the last week – contrary to the promised moment of rest after the death of Steffen – the remaining tree house villages were evicted. The operation was characterized by massive negligence, as well as violent police intervention.

LORIEN STILL RESISTANT, REUL STILL AN ASS

Another day is over in this tough, weeks-long eviction by police and state machinery for the profits of RWE and their coal lobby.

After the destruction of Oaktown, Gallien, Cozytown, Beechtown and Kleingartenverein, Lorien is the last major occupation that is still fought for. For days, the police there tried to evict the people from their tree houses.

But thanks to the great support of sitting blocks, standing blocks and the presence of many people on spot, we achieved that almost all tree houses are still standing. TakaTuka is the only tree house from where the climbing police today “saved” people with lift trucks

EVICTION CONTINUES, OAKTOWN REOCCUPIED, COAL-TRAIN BLOCKED

As expected, the massive eviction of the occupations inside the 12,000 years old Hambach Forest continued today.

Less than a week since the tragic accident, and the resulting death of our dear comrade, and despite the interior-minister of NRW Herbert Reul (CDU) promising “calm days”, the police has been constantly present ever since, and continued their violent destruction of the climate-justice protest camps inside the occupied forest.

Press release 09/20/2018 – Tragic death in Hambach Forest

On Wednesday afternoon about 3:45 pm, the movement journalist, blogger and activist Steffen Horst Meyn, died in the tree house village Beechtown in Hambach Forest. He crashed while attempting to document an ongoing eviction action by the Special Task Force of Police (SEK), from a suspension bridge from about 20 m height. Rescue workers on the ground tried to resuscitate him. According to our information, however, he died a little later, still in the forest, in a rescue helicopter.
