The meadow camp, which has served as a protest and resistance camp and important meeting place for activists since the beginning of the forest occupation, is now to be cleared. Kurt Claßen, owner of the property at the edge of the forest and comrade-in-arms in the fight to preserve the Hambach Forest, filed with the help of his lawyer an appeal against the eviction order by the Arnsberg district government of the compulsory expropriation, planned by RWE, which will delay the trial for the time being. In a statement by Kurt Classen on the illegality of the order of the building authority, represented by the state government, he writes that the threatened eviction order would serve to deprive the activists of the infrastructure for meetings. This violates the fundamental right to freedom of assembly

Currently a Bucket-Wheel Excavator of RWE is Blocked

Currently an excavator of RWE is blocked. On 6.10.2018 activists near the bucket wheels forced the excavator driver to stop the machine. Today on Oct.7th about 11:00 am the police tried to cordon off a wide area around the excavator. The fire department is talking to the activists. An eviction of the occupation is not in the sense of the police because of the proximity to the edge of the dug slope.

Today, the Higher Administrative Court (OVG, Oberverwaltungsgericht) granted in the course of an emergency application of B.U.N.D. (Alliance for the Environment and Nature Conservation Germany e.V.) to suspend the deforesting for the time being. A stage win, because the struggle for the forest is far from won. What does that mean for the forest? First and foremost, the forest is protected by the court, and saved from felling until the final decision of the OVG is made, whether or not the Hambach Forest falls under the Habitats Directive.
