The Greens celebrate Hannelore Kraft as the gravedigger of lignite, but RWE remains the gravedigger of the Rhineland. Implemented are only the slack demands of the carbon chain of Greenpeace , TG and B.U.N.D..

According to the Energy Watch Group, the International Energy Agency (IEA) publishes since years wrong data and projections on the potential of renewable enegies (Frankfurter Rundschau).

Although wind power and photovoltaics have grown exponentially in recent decades, the IEA continues to assume a linear growth of these technologies, and therefore a constant annual installation of new systems. So they predict for the renewable energies only a 14 percent share of the global energy supply by 2030. In fact, according to critics, 60 percent are rather realistic when applying the average growth rates of the past 20 years.

In addition, Greenpeace assumes 100% until 2050.

Thus, the global solar power capacity of 180 gigawatts, which was predicted by the Agency in 2010 only until 2024, has been achieved in fact in January 2015. Christian Breyer, Professor for Solar Economy at the finnish Lappeenranta University and main author of the Energy Watch Group study: “From a scientific perspective, these structural defects are incomprehensible. From a social perspective, they are irresponsible.”

The President of the Energy Watch Group, Hans-Josef Fell, accuses the IEA, “to have opposed for years global energy revolution”. The false predictions still cause too high investments in coal, oil, gas and nuclear, they hinder the development of renewable energy in the world and so undermine the global struggle against climate change, the former Green member of the Bundestag says.

The Energy Agency was established in 1974 after the first oil crisis as a specialized organization of the industrialized OECD countries on energy issues. They acted during a long time mainly as a lobby group for the smoothest possible supply of oil, gas and coal. Recently, however, there are signs of a swing. They recognized the importance of climate change and promotes the reduction of greenhouse gases, the improvement of energy efficiency and the reduction of subsidies for fossil fuels. Fell admits that the current chief economist and future boss of the IEA, Fatih Birol, often makes “right-looking statements” and describes “the drama of the CO₂ increase”. But nevertheless in the official reports he still finds the same systematic errors […]

Fell explains the “fossil and nuclear flip side” of the reports with the fact that they have to be reviewed and approved by the gouvernments of the OECD countries. Among them are countries like Australia and Russia, which live much on the export of fossil fuels, and countries like France, that wants to export nuclear power plants. “They have no interest in ensuring that the potential of eco-energies are described realistically”

According to the Allensbach polling agency, 95% are against coal power. Meanwhile, also the OECD has understood that the coal exit is part of the energy turnaround:

“The time has come that the countries should show that they are serious about the fight against climate change, and a reform of the harmful support for fossil fuels would be a good beginning,” OECD Secretary General José Ángel Gurría declared.

Now the NRW Land gouvernment pretends to having implemented this. So we can read at the website of the NRW Greens:

With the 3rd routing decision we close an important asset of the past and open up at the same time a new energy policy for the future.

But decided is so far only a draft of the NRW Land gouvernment, on which they will continue to negotiate in the next spring. Anyway a gradual exit from 2030 is no adequate solution in view of the well-known health hazards and additional costs due to coal. The Pirate Party of NRW however, demand once more a quick “lignite exit law” and complain that the Greens have caved in the routing decision. “When a faster phase-out of lignite with the coalition partner SPD is not feasible, then remains only the phase out from the Kraft-Coal-Coalition to represent a credible climate policy,” NRW president Patrick Schiffer of the Pirate Party said. Despite cabinet reshuffle this Combined Coal and Kraft will stay intact under the pressure of RWE.

Now the red-green draft of the routing decision will be released two months for consultation. Concerned citizens, municipalities and counties are allowed to submit comments online. The gouvernment of the Land does not believe that major changes will be necessary before it finally will adopt the routing decision next spring. They are quite confident that RWE will arrange with the scenario, because they already were in contact with the group during the elaboration. (welt)

In their mind, the state should take care of the final storage of the nuclear waste.
